Upcoming Spiritans Oceania Annual Retreat
April 8, 2024 – April 12, 2024

The Spiritans Oceania annual meeting is scheduled between 8 – 12 April 2024 at St John of God Retreat Centre, Shoalwater (Perth), WA Australia.
Spiritans Oceania holds an annual meeting that brings together all Confreres working in Australia and Papua New Guinea. The purpose of these meetings is to build fraternity and strengthen the individual and collective spirituality and missionary zeal of Spiritan missionaries.
This year, it has been decided to invite the newly formed Lay Spiritans group to join in some of the sessions.
The areas of focus for our meeting are:
- Tuesday 9 April – Retreat Day guided by Fr Edmond Nixon CSsR, former Superior of Redemptorist (whole day).
- Wednesday, 10 April – Safeguarding Training by Ms Barb Blaynay (Director Safeguarding Program Archdiocese of Perth) and Ms Saxon Gee (Director WA Professional Standards Office). Confreres will be awarded certificates of attendance, which will be helpful for their ministries.
- Community meetings and communications will be held, where confreres will share their mission experiences. This will continue during the morning hours of Thursday with Lay Spiritans.
- A visit to the Archdiocese of Perth’s Pro-Cathedral located on the grounds of Mercedes College. We shall have a mass celebration here in honour of Fr Maurice Bouchet, who died on 24 January 1846, a few days after arriving from France. He was one of the five Spiritans sent by Francis Libermann to a mission in Australia. The Most Reverend Donald Sproxton, Auxiliary Bishop of Perth, will be the principal celebrant at this mass.
